Tips for Gifting Your Knitting

I had a friend ask me a while back about how to wrap a hand knit item as a gift.  You put so much effort and time into knitting something that gift that it only seems right to wrap it up in a special way, too.  I wrapped this Juneberry Shawl up for my mom, and she and I both love the song, "My Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music when Maria sings about "brown paper packages tied up with strings".  I wrapped her gift up to remind her of that song and to re-use the wrapping the yarn came in when I first ordered it!

If you're giving a hand knit item as a gift, here are a few suggestions:

  • Try saving the wrapping your yarn comes in.  I often order yarn for a specific project and many companies and shops include fun wrapping.  Re-use that wrapping for the finished object!
  • Include a ball band to let your recipient know about the color name and fiber content of the yarn.
  • Write out a care tag so your recipient knows how to wash or clean their knitted garment.

That's it!  I always lean towards sweet and simple; just let the knitting do the talking and your recipient will love their new hand knit!
