Three Ways to wear a shawl

As a new knitter, I loved the idea of knitting shawls.  They're flat, knit in one piece, but you still get to do lots of fun stitch patterns or color changes.  Shawls are great projects to stretch your knitting muscles without the commitment of knitting a whole sweater.  However, I had a hard time figuring out how to wear these giant triangles since I don't see people wearing them out and about in my little Midwestern city.  After some experimenting and photo browsing, here's my three favorite ways to wear a triangle shaped shawl:

  • Use a shawl pin!  These pins can be all different styles and shapes, but the one I have looks almost like a giant gold safety pin.  And that's totally how I use it; pin up one side of the shawl so it's cozy around my neck and let the ends drape down.  Super simple!
  • Over your shoulders!  Even easier; I like wearing shawls like this in the evening when I'm curled up at home knitting or watching a movie.
  • Like a scarf!  Just turn your shawl so the triangle point is in front of you and wrap the ends around your neck.  This is my favorite way to wear it when I'm really cold.  And in case you're wondering, my shawl in these photos is Onward by Shannon Cook knit in Quince and Co. Lark in petal.
